About:
Our School Arts Integration Program is designed for K-12 classrooms in the DMV. It aims to increase students' engagement, understanding, and retention of social studies and English language arts curriculum, while also meeting classroom learning objectives, NCAS theatre standards, and encouraging the The Eight Acting Habits of Mind.
NCT staff work with teachers to create a process-based residency that meets the specific needs of their classroom and engages students with curriculum in an active and fun way.
Timeline:
Teachers fill out an initial survey identifying the content areas covered, learning objectives, and scheduling information.
An NCT staff member then holds a planning meeting with the teacher to collaboratively establish: goals of the residency, academic and arts learning objectives, standards addressed, number of sessions, schedule, and pricing.
NCT will build and share a residency scope and sequence for approval before the first classroom visit. The residency Teaching Artist and teacher stay in communication throughout the program to adapt and refine activities. Following the final classroom visit, teachers complete a survey assessing student learning and evaluating the success of the residency.
Pricing:
$100 per one hour session, per classroom. Discounts available based on demonstrated need. NCT is happy to work with your school to secure a grant or sponsorship to fund this program.
Theatre Program
Bring the theatre to your school and build confidence, collaboration skills, and social-emotional intelligence. During the school day, or as an after-school program, NCT partners with PreK-12 classrooms and PTAs in the DMV to provide research-based theatre education programs: performing plays for an audience, storytelling, theatre games, improvisation, audition skills, and more!

Within the framework of The Eight Acting Habits of Mind, NCT Teaching Artists meet students ages 3-18 where they are, adapting activities to their skill level while encouraging artistic risk-taking and playing outside of comfort zones when students feel safe to do so. Our classes and productions welcome students new to theatre, students with varying skill levels and interests, and students with accommodations. NCT prides itself on its ability to offer programs that are both playful and rigorous, fun and challenging, where healthy student development is prioritized over a final product.
